Warning Signs
Signs Your A/C Needs Work
It is easy to forget about the A/C until the first hot day of the year. If you have noticed any of these, it is time to have it looked at.
- The air is warm. It blows warm air from the vents, or air that is only a little cool, even with the temperature turned all the way down.
- It only cools when you are moving. It keeps up fine on the highway, then goes warm at a stop light or in traffic.
- The airflow is weak. The fan is on high and you can barely feel it at the vents.
- It smells musty. You get a musty smell when you first turn the A/C on.
- It makes a new noise. You hear something you have not heard before when the A/C kicks in.
Any one of these is worth a call. Tell us what you are noticing and we will tell you straight whether it needs fixing now or can wait.
Fixed Properly
Recharge or Repair
A/C is a sealed system. The refrigerant is supposed to stay in it. If it is low, it is usually leaking somewhere.
Topping it up without finding out why it was low only buys time. It feels fixed for a while, then the cold air fades and you are back where you started.
So we check the system, not just top it up. Your vehicle goes on the A/C service machine in our shop, we see what is going on, and you get a straight answer before any work starts, whether that turns out to be a recharge or a repair. That way you are not paying for a recharge that leaks back out a few weeks later.
Plan Ahead
Get It Done Before Summer
Okanagan summers get hot. The first heat wave is a bad time to find out your A/C is not keeping up, especially if you work out of your truck or have kids in the back seat.
Book your A/C check in spring, before the first heat wave. If it needs work, there is time to sort it out. If it is fine, you head into summer knowing it is fine.
Call (250) 549-3133 to book. We are open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Trucks Too
That is a GMC Sierra hooked up to the A/C service machine in our shop. Cars and trucks both get the same check.
Neighbors Auto Repair is independent and locally owned, serving Vernon and the North Okanagan. No franchise and no corporate markup. Along with the A/C machine, the shop has professional lifts, Snap-on diagnostics and a full tire and wheel setup. We have 4.8 stars on Google, and the reviews are worth a read.
FAQ
Questions People Ask
How do I know if I just need a recharge?
You cannot really tell from the driver's seat. A/C is a sealed system, so if it is low on refrigerant, it is usually leaking somewhere. We check the system first, so you are not paying for a recharge that leaks back out a few weeks later.
How much does A/C service cost?
It depends on what it needs. Call (250) 549-3133 and we will give you a straight answer before any work starts.
Do you work on trucks?
Yes. The truck in the photos on this page is a GMC Sierra on our A/C machine.
Do I need an appointment?
Call ahead. We are open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., closed weekends.
